Senior Manager, Mainframe Innovation Engineering

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Mainframe Innovation Engineering to join our team and oversee the design, build, testing and lifecycle of integrated mainframe and hybrid cloud managed offerings. You will lead a global team of engineers and developers who are responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable, and secure applications and managed services that leverage the power of the modern, cloud-connected technologies. You will collaborate with Product Managers, LOB leader, business stakeholders, Operations, and external partners to deliver the engineering in line with the overall Product Management vision, roadmap and priorities. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

• Provide inspiration and direction for multiple engineers developing mainframe-related solutions that leverage mainframe software and infrastructure, but also integrate with non-mainframe capabilities such as public cloud or SaaS platforms. 
• Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in mainframe and mainframe-connected technology use cases and domains, and identify opportunities for innovation and optimization 
• Provide architectural thought leadership, leading the evaluation and testing of technology choices and approaches in support of the product roadmap, ensuring what is built meets the intended client experience and acceptance criteria defined by Product Management  
• Drive the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions, ensuring alignment with product requirements, customer needs, and release timelines. 
• Manage the engineering team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation to support the team in doing their best work 
• Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and policies for development, testing, deployment, and lifecycle 
• Ensure the reliability, availability, security, and scalability of the offerings, using tools and methodologies such as DevOps and automation 
• Communicate effectively with senior management, peers, and customers on initiatives, issues, risks, and solutions 

 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 
• At least 10 years of experience in mainframe engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role 
• Expert knowledge of mainframe architectures, technologies, configurations, and best practices 
• Strong understanding of the mainframe system telemetry outputs and integration patterns. 
• Excellent communication, critical-thinking, collaboration, and analytical problem-solving and prioritization skills 
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines 
• Proven track record of having engineered mainframe platform or digital offerings that have met the customer needs where scale of adoption spans a group of customers with similar needs.  
• Understanding of security, compliance, and governance frameworks and standards, such as ISO, NIST, PCI, HIPAA especially as related to the mainframe. 
• Certifications in mainframe and/or cloud technologies are a plus.  
• Hands-on experience with technologies such as Snowflake, AWS, Azure, containers, Ansible are plus
