Position Summary
The Senior Recovery Engineer will be responsible for the administration of VERITAS NetBackup and Commvault platforms, as well as developing backup policies and data recovery. This position requires a background in backup solutions as well as some SAN management experience, with a demonstrated ability to design and architect complex solution around the data storage, data management and data protection needs of a broad and diverse set of applications and business systems. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary. A strong background in designing, implementing, and supporting disk- and tape-based storage infrastructures is required. A strong background in cloud technologies and the service provider industry is also highly desired.

Position reports to Sr Manager Info Tech, Data Mgt.

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Works with VERITAS NetBackup 8.x in a large mixed environment of both Windows and Linux servers.
  • Works with Commvault v11 in a large mixed environment of both Windows and Linux servers.
  • Ability to build and design backup infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage multiple tape libraries of backup infrastructure.
  • Understands and has excellent knowledge and skills to troubleshoot NetBackup issues, tape issues, and storage issues.
  • Needs to understand and monitor disk staging units (DSSU’s).
  • Needs to be proficient in NetBackup policies and schedules, have the ability to create policies, and work with defined schedules is a must.
  • Needs to be proficient in Commvault policies, have the ability to create policies, and work with defined schedule policies is a must.
  • The ability to work independently and to work on-call rotation is a must.
  • Must thoroughly understand NetBackup through the command line and through the GUI.
  • Must thoroughly understand Commvault through the command line and through the GUI.
  • Must understand Linux and Windows commands, and understand how to troubleshoot backup issues on both Windows servers and Linux servers.
  • Must follow established company processes, including change management, incident management, and problem management processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years experience in VERITAS NetBackup
  • 3 years experience in Commvault
  • 5 years experience in backup and recovery operations

Other Qualifications

  • Experience in Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Experience in shell or PowerShell scripting
  • Experience in developing operational reports
  • Experience in networking knowledge
  • Experience in managing large database backups and recovery
  • Experience in Oracle and MSSQL server databases
