Mainframe Mentor (Part time opportunity)

Target hours per week: 15-20

The mentor will utilize their technical experience with Mainframe Software Lifecycle projects in areas such as z/OS, CICS, and DB2 to support their mentees by:

  • Technical advice/expert support to resolve issues and to develop coping strategies for a permanent solution.
  • A mentor provides support, training, knowledge, encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback to the mentee by developing a genuine interest in the growth of their abilities and talents.
  • Acknowledge the mentee’s strengths, talents and encouraging them to find ways to use them.
  • Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement when appropriate

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct regular scheduled meetings with mentees to assist with mentees work assessments
  • Assist mentee to identify individual needs and support career development
  • Assist the mentee to identify and solve problems
  • Provide appropriate and timely advice
  • Share professional experiences providing a different view of the matter under discussion
  • Contribute to weekly status report to leadership in technical tower
  • Partner with mentee’s manager to identify and create training and development plan to address identified areas.  
  • Maintain confidentiality of mentee’s information

Qualifications

  • Seasoned or experienced mainframe resource working within a z/OS, CICS, or DB2 environment with Service Delivery acumen or technical advisor for internal and external teams experience.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills, including the ability and experience of presenting information to different types of learners across various regions and backgrounds.   Using a variety of approaches that encourages mentee focus and retention of information.
  • Passion for growing and developing other’s technical skills. 
  • Ability to recognize that all associates have strengths and they need to discover and use them.
  • In possession of a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities of mentees and technical complexities faced by mentees.
